Better boards equal better organisations and therefore we believe it is important that Boards know where they are at in regards to their performance. In our discussions with boards, the vast majority will say, "We are ok/good". Our challenge is then, "How did you form that view?" Usually, boards arrive at their judgement as part of internal discussions with each other and when we challenge them for external evidence, there is often very little. We recommend boards find out where they are by a rigorous, robust, and evidence based process, and then track it over time. The aim of the Governance4fe bench-marking service, is to educate, inspire, and empower boards to become even more effective in their role to steer, oversee, and add value to their institutions.
Anonymised Benchmarking from External Reviews
As part of our comprehensive offer and to support your board further on its journey to greatness, we will provide anonymised board bench-marking data on all the areas in our GREAT framework, from September 2023. These areas are:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Structures and systems
- Behavioural governance
- Stakeholder engagement
- Support and challenge
- Impactful decision-making
- Vision, ethos, and purpose
- Being strategic
- Composition and succession
- Diversity and inclusion
In addition, we will also benchmark some mechanistic meeting measures, such as board structure and composition, frequency of meetings, length of meeting/agenda/minutes etc. This service is offered as part of our External Board Review service.
Anonymised Benchmarking from researched data
If you require bench-marked data but do not undertake a Governance4fe external board review, you can access the more mechanistic measures such as board structure and composition, frequency of meetings, length of meeting/agenda/minutes etc. This information will be available from September 2023.
All of our bench-marking data is sourced from the Further Education sector.
