The role of Board is an oversight one and the Board has responsibility for ensuring the institution’s estate is well-maintained and safe, including the health and safety of staff (as the college’s employer), and that insurance cover is appropriate.
The operational responsibility for the institution’s estate and the well-being of staff lies with senior leaders, but as a Board, you should be monitoring:
- The effectiveness of arrangements for continuing education provision
- The implications for the budget on any required spend
- If learning is taking place elsewhere, that Safeguarding provision is sufficient
